The Triangle's job market soon will be booming again, according to Business 2.0 magazine.
The magazine's March issue anoints the Triangle as the nation's hottest job market, placing the area atop a ranking of 20 "Boom Towns" that will generate 850,000 skilled jobs in the next four years.
San Jose , Calif., was No. 2 on the list, while Washington, D.C., placed third. Austin, Texas, and Atlanta rounded out the top five. Charlotte ranked No. 19 on the list.
For the second year in a row, magazine editors at Employment Review named Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill the number one “ Best Place to Live and Work in America.”
Editors wrote that the Triangle “offers a great quality of life, a low crime rate, affordable housing, top-notch educational institutions, some of the best healthcare facilities in the world, a diverse industry base, and an environment in which it is ideal to raise a family.”
The article goes on to describe the area’s “thriving business sector,” its first-rate healthcare facilities, and that the region is “the premier address for relocating and expanding companies that want access to technology-transfer opportunities” through Research Triangle Park’s close ties to the three local universities. Another key ingredient in attracting employers and residents to the Triangle is its central location between the mountains and the beach and the high quality of life the area maintains.
The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill has been recognized by Kiplinger for the sixth straight year as the nation’s top public university.
